TAPPING CAN HEAL YOU
You may think that this is about tap dancing…….. NOPE, even though any kind of dance is good for your soul and can help in your healing process. However, this article is not about tap dancing, is about a healing technique called “tapping”.
“Tapping”, also called “Emotional Freedom Technique” (EFT), is a simple therapeutic tool based in acupuncture that literally releases you from your emotional distress and bothersome experiences. It combines ancient knowledge with recent scientific discoveries about neuroplasticity and rewiring of the brain. “Tapping” has also been called the “emotional acupuncture”.
“Tapping “ was introduced as a help-self approach in the 1970s, since then the popularity of this easy-to-apply but incredible effective tool for stress regulation, personal transformation, and overall energy balance has grown tremendously.
There are two important things that we do when practicing EFT:
1) This technique is a somatic intervention because it uses your fingers to tap softly on certain points of your body, the points where the meridians are closer to the skin. The meridians are like small pipes where the energy flows in our body. When the energies in our body are not flowing properly they get stuck. When this happens we repeat destructive thoughts (consciously or subconsciously) and feel negative emotions, generating a wide range of outcomes such as anxiety, fear, phobias, procrastination, lack of focus, even developing diseases or physical symptoms. By tapping on the specific acupressure points we allow the flow of energy and our body get the balance that needs to come back to a physically and emotionally healthy state.
2) At the same time that we are tapping on the acupressure points, we are saying out loud certain statements that help us focus on a specific issue, because when we practice EFT we need to be specific. The idea of repeating these statements is to acknowledge our actual feelings (even if we do not like them), to accept them, and finally to release them. The creation of the statements is based on cognitive and exposure therapies.
EFT sends a subtle calming signal affecting the amygdala (stress center of the brain that controls the “Fight or Flight “ response) and the hippocampus (memory center of the brain) promoting calm, more awareness and well-being in general.
It is not just tapping on the skin that makes EFT a somatic intervention. “Tapping” initiates a cascading of events in the brain and body that impact hormone production, brain waves, blood flow within the brain, and gene expression in ways that enhance emotional and physical health.
“Tapping” has rapid and permanent results, helping us shifts old emotional experiences to change limiting beliefs and remove the emotional content from a traumatic memory.
“Tapping” is an easy, fast, and non invasive therapeutic technique, it does not require special equipment (just your body), it often gives you instant relief, treats a broad range of issues and once you learn it, it can be self-applied.
Just give it a try and you will be impressed with this powerful tool that is literally at your fingertips.
